Wanted to mention something about this shirt.
It has the quote, “The first draft of anything is shit!”
And as I told the lady who complimented me on it at Penn Station, I’ve always heard it was an Ernest Hemingway quote.
Although between you and me, I’ve seen a lot of people claim it was said by a lot of different people. So, hell, maybe I should start telling people I said it (although I don’t recommend lying to anybody).
Either way, I believe it is an Ernest Hemingway quote, and more importantly, I think it’s something to consider when you’re starting off and trying to become a better copywriter.
Keep in mind that you’re not going to start off great at anything!
For example, I picked up video games out of boredom during this quarantine. I haven’t played video games in 10+ years… And I stink now!
Getting beat in Fortnite by my mom’s 12 year-old godson, and he’s the worst type of winner — really laying into me — very verbal and aggressive — it’s sad honestly. Regardless, you must start bad to get better at anything.
The first draft of anything is shit. It’s absolutely true.
And as the lady at Penn Station said, “You know I don’t care who said it, but it’s the truest thing in life. You’re never gonna start off good at anything (anything worthwhile).”
And that’s true about copywriting.
And good copywriting is something worthwhile!
