Why Are Pelicans So Smug?

You can really tell just by looking at them...

It's obviously a personal thing. I am not denying that.

But I've always thought Pelicans were a little smug (maybe even arrogant) in their demeanor. 

Whether gracefully flying just slightly above majestic coastlinesā€¦

Or confidently dive-bombing headfirst into crystal-blue waters for a light snackā€¦

And especially the way they perch and relax with their full, smug chins afterward.

At the very least, the Pelican appears self-assured with what it does.
